Many of you ask me how I manage to travel so often and for a long time without spending too much money. It is true that I often leave for long periods Cheap Trip, which allows me to better amortize the costs of transport and plane tickets. But otherwise, here are some tips for finding a cheap stay. Make good use of it!
Travel out of season
This is the number 1 rule for reducing costs when going on a trip. Whether for plane tickets, accommodation or all-inclusive stays, prices are always a function of supply and demand. So, if you still want to go in summer, try to favor June to mid-July or September. October and November are the most excellent months to get decent rates.
Look at the offers on the internet
This is the to some extent boring and time-consuming part: examining all the travel deals on the internet. To save time, you have sites that do that for you like the Holiday Official. A team of experts reviews the offers on travel sites… and thus selects the best deals and inexpensive stays for you.
If you are on the lookout for promotions, also look at the flash sales on Last Minute, the promotional trips on Jet Tours or the good deals on cheap mother daughter trips.
Go on a trip to cheap countries
This is the easiest way to avoid breaking the bank and enjoy your trip. To find a cheap stay, avoid Scandinavia, Canada, Japan or South Africa, and favor Thailand, India, Greece, or Bolivia. Among the cheap countries where I have traveled recently, I can recommend Russia, Albania or even Belarus.
Be flexible on travel dates
Plane tickets are always cheaper in the middle of the week than at the weekend. To go on a cheap trip, it is therefore better to be flexible on the dates of departure and return. Search engines like Skyscanner allow you to search for prices throughout the month and thus find the cheapest dates. Momondo is also good at comparing prices over chosen time periods. For stays of a week, offers from Sunday to Sunday or from Wednesday to Wednesday are generally at better rates.
Plan clearly in advance or at the last minute
These are the two times when it is easiest to find a discounted Cheap Trip: either well in advance or at the last minute. If you’re ready to go anywhere, check out last-minute deals on Skyscanner. You must look on hotel reservation platforms that sell rooms that have not found takers at the last minute at low prices. On Booking, last-minute prices are often very interesting!
Sleep Homestays
Another way to save on accommodation is to use couch surfing, a free homestay accommodation site. But it’s a social network where it takes time to create a good profile and you must want to spend time with your hosts and thank them by cooking a meal or inviting them for a drink.
Be ready to discover original destinations
To find a cheap stay, it is better to be open about the destination and favor countries or cities that attract less crowds. For example, rather than the big cities or European capitals like London, Rome, or Amsterdam, prefer less touristic cities but just as interesting to visit like Manchester in England, Naples in Italy, or Charleroi in Belgium.
Dare to go to “at risk” countries
Far be it from me to recommend going to countries at war or very unstable such as Syria, Iraq, or Afghanistan… But the dramatic events of the last few months and years have kept famous world travelers away from certain destinations such as Tunisia, Egypt, or Turkey. I can realize the nervousness that limits the requirement to go to these countries, but after all, statistically the risk persists low to be in the not right area at the wrong time, and it can also very well take place in Paris, Nice or anywhere. I traveled to Brussels barely 10 days after the March 2016 attacks and hotels were selling off their rooms at half price. In addition, continuing to travel despite terrorist threats helps support the tourism sector of these countries or cities, which finds itself greatly penalized after these ordeals.
Save on train tickets
Train travel in France can quickly get very expensive! To reduce the bill, here are two solutions. Book as early as possible first. On this page, you have all the information on the opening dates for the sale of train tickets, whether for classic TGVs, Thalys, Eurostar… Make a note in your diary so you don’t forget! The second solution: take a discount card! For my part, I have the adult Advantage card, which allows me to have a 30% reduction on most of my journeys. It pays for itself very quickly! Here are the different cards available:
